Born in Vienna, he began studying the violin at the age of six, piano at the age of eight. Member and soloist of the “Vienna Boys’ Choir”. After graduating from law at the University of Vienna he continued and completed his music studies at the “Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst” in Vienna with such illustrious teachers as F. Valenzi-Richter and Noel Flores (piano), Erich Urbanner (composition), Erwin Ratz (theory) and the legendary Hans Swarowsky (conducting). He was also admitted to the famous masterclasses of Franco Ferrara in Venice (Teatro la Fénice) and Siena (Accademia Chigiana). Assistant to Leonard Bernstein and Herbert von Karajan. Early concert-debuts in Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest and Romania. First Prize at the prestigious International conductor’s competition “Vittorio Gui” in Florence 1978. International concert invitations followed and on special recommendation by Karl Böhm, who had been impressed with Scheidt’s early interpretations of Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, Wolfgang Scheidt was invited – among others – to the Munich Philharmonic conducting Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the New Year’s concert 1978/79. 1980-82 Chief conductor at the Istanbul State Opera. In the following years he performed with such renowned Orchestras as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, RAI-Torino, RAI-Milano, Teatro La Fénice, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, WDR-Cologne, NDR-Hannover, RSO-Frankfurt, Munich Philharmonic, RTL-Luxemburg, Munich BACH-Collegium, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Zagreb Philharmonic, Budapest Radio Symphony Orchestra, etc. and also at Opera Houses such as Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf), Hessisches Staatstheater (Wiesbaden), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), etc. Radio – and TV – productions. Upon his successful debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the “Konzerthaus”, Vienna, further concert – and opera – engagements took him to Paris, Toulouse, Berlin, Bucharest, Klausenburg, Ljubljana, Budapest as well as to the prestigious Italian Opera Houses of Rome (Teatro dell` Opera), Genoa (Teatro Margherita), Catania (Teatro Bellini) and Venice (Teatro la Fénice). Concerts with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in Munich and the RSO Leipzig at the Gewandhaus. Scheidt has also frequently conducted in Buenos Aires (Teatro Colón), Santiago de Chile (Philharmonic Orchestra), South Africa (NSO Johannesburg and Pretoria) and at the Prague and Budapest State Opera, as well as at the Croatian National Theatre Zagreb. Participation in International Festivals. Over the past years Scheidt has also further increased his teaching activities -- with special emphasis on interpretation -- for young conductors, vocal-soloists and pianists -- both individually as well as in international masterclasses.
